Overview

The prophet Ezekiel was among the first Jews to be deported to Babylon. Many thought that God had abandoned his promises by allowing the captivity. Through the words, actions, and visions of Ezekiel, God reminded his people of their sins and promised that a faithful remnant would return so that all his promises concerning the Messiah would come to pass.

Many people have found The People’s Bible to be the most reliable Bible commentary series published. It’s the laypeople’s Bible—down to earth, clearly written, easy to read and understand, filled with practical and contemporary applications. The Christ-centered commentary follows the Scripture sections containing explanations of the text, historical background, maps, illustrations, and archaeological information.

The People’s Bible commentaries are great for personal or group study.

Top Highlights

“After Jerusalem had fallen and the rest of the nation had joined them in exile, the Jews in Babylon had given up hope. ‘As a people and a nation we are just as good as dead,’ they said. To that the Lord replied, ‘I can change that. I can raise you from the dead! I can return you to your land. Nothing is impossible for me.’” (Page 219)

“One of the most severe forms of discipline the Lord uses is to permit us to continue in our selfish ways—even ‘enticing’ us to carry them out! This discipline is most effective because the drastic, disastrous results of our own selfishness often tell us better than anything else: ‘God’s way is the best.’” (Page 75)

“Christianity is not a movement, an organization, or an attitude. It is a relationship between God and an individual person based on Jesus Christ the Savior from sin.” (Page 102)

“First, he would remove those wicked shepherds who were taking advantage of the flock. And then he would personally provide for the needs of his flock.” (Page 201)

“It might be our tendency to stay lying facedown with Ezekiel, overcome with awe, when we are led to experience the mercy and majesty of the Lord. But the Lord doesn’t let his people just lie around and bask in his glory. He has work for us to do. He lets us view the rainbow of his grace, orders us to stand up and listen to him, and then empowers us to do so.” (Pages 18–19)
