This volume includes a biographical sketch of Rollock, various dedicatory letters and prefaces to his work, a summary of his theology, his Treatise of Our Effectual Calling, three sonnets written by James Melville on Rollock’s death, and several of his sermons.

Robert Rollock (1555–1599) was the first principal of the University of Edinburgh, and one of the sixteenth century’s greatest Reformed theologians. He was a renowned biblical scholar who wrote commentaries, treatises, and sermons—and he was the first Scottish theologian to expound upon covenant theology.
William M. Gunn (1750–1841) was an English clergyman, writer, and historian.
