Top Highlights

“Some passages aim to assure us of our ‘security’ from the forces that are against us. They do not mean to provide security against the consequences or possibilities of our own neglect, indifference, or unbelief.” (Page 9)

“Arminian will insist that the view that apostasy is possible makes sense when linked with other soteriological doctrines. If God truly desires that all be saved, and sent Christ to atone for the sins of all, and ‘draws’ all who hear with intelligence thus restoring their ‘freedom’ to believe or reject the gospel, and then saves only those who freely choose to believe, then it follows that salvation is conditional.” (Page 11)

“Passages that express confidence, for the writer or his readers, that ‘God will perfect the work He has begun’ in them are expressing confidence in what God will do, from His side, assuming that the persons spoken about continue in faith.” (Page 10)

“The unbeliever can leave his unbelief, become a believer, and see life—thus escaping from the promise made to the unbeliever who continues in his unbelief. Likewise, the believer can leave his belief, become an unbeliever, and come into condemnation—thus escaping from the promise made to believers who continue in faith. Each promise applies with equal force to those who continue in the respective state described.” (Page 8)

“It is extremely important to express our view in such a way that faith, and not works, is the sole condition of salvation. We must not establish salvation by grace through faith with the right hand and take it away with the left.” (Page 14)
