Never in America’s history has there been the widespread official hostility to religious expression as experienced today: • A student was arrested for participating in a “See You At The Pole” voluntary prayer gathering before the start of the school day. • A federal judge warned that if students used the word “Jesus” in a prayer that they would receive “six months incarceration in the Galveston County jail.” • School officials require students to turn in their prayers in written form before they can be prayed so that attorneys can edit the prayers to remove “offensive phrases” such as “heavenly Father.” • States refuse to customize license plates if they contain the word “Pray” or “God.” • School officials threaten that prayer would be disciplined the same as the use of profanity. • Displays may not include the Ten Commandments, regardless of how many other diverse documents are included in the display. • Students are prohibited from saying the Pledge of Allegiance or “God Bless America” because of the religious references they contain.
