Since the nineteenth century, many Christian theologians have been converted to the theory of evolution--a theory whose scientific tenability they are not qualified to assess, but which they are unlikely to give up. The majority of recent books by Christian academics on this subject have all but surrendered the entire field of origins to an evolutionary "molecule-to-man" view of reality.
Those who believe in human evolution, and yet wish to maintain some form of a historical Adam and a historical Fall, suffer from a serious form of self-deception. That is, in no way can they do justice to the careful exegesis of so many details in Genesis 2 and 3, not to mention key New Testament texts that presuppose the historicity of our first parents.
The central thesis of this book is that those who accept the theory of general evolution cannot at the same time be orthodox Christians because the matter of origins does not belong at the periphery but at the heart of the Christian message.
This insightful work of theology brings an interdisciplinary vision to bear upon its subject, undergirded as it is by a distinctly Christian philosophy that demolishes the evolutionary philosophical paradigm that has so influenced Western theologians for generations.

Dutch scholar Willem J. Ouweneel’s Adam, Where Are You? is a timely, thorough, well-researched book that comes down solidly on the side of affirming the antithesis between orthodox Christianity and human evolution. It also does a good job of being thetical as well, affirming the clarity and value of biblical truth and viewing it positively without drastically modifying it with extra-biblical ideas. The book is eminently readable, well-edited, biblically-grounded, mind-enriching, and God-honouring.

Dr. Ouweneel understands what many atheists--and too few Christians--do, that the conflict between the clear reading of Scripture and modern evolutionary theory permits no reconciliation. Adam, Where Are You? highlights that if we cannot trust the Bible in Genesis 1-3, we cannot trust it on any point. Anyone who is interested in honestly engaging with the question of origins and the implications for Christian theology will be helped by this book.

Adam, Where Are You? by Willem J. Ouweneel is a balanced theological exploration of debates about “the historical Adam,” particularly modern theology’s dismissal of him to the realms of myth or literary figure. Dr. Ouweneel explores the many and profound implications for Christianity, leading to the inescapable conclusion that every theological twist and turn boils down to a stark choice of traditional biblical theology or liberal apostasy. Compromise positions, so popular today, are inherently untenable. This book will be a great help to Christians searching for a ray of biblical clarity on a foggy path.
