Have you ever said, “I’m fine,” when you’re not? ... Or, “Sorry I couldn’t take your call” when you could have? ... Or, “I was stuck in traffic,” when you weren’t—you simply left late?
Big or small, lies are still lies. And, based on a Reader’s Digest poll, over 90% of the population lies—regularly—to friends, family, associates, even ourselves. And the consequences of our dishonesty are eventually destructive.
Think about your own life: Has lying become a habit for you? Have you had to meet a deadline, so to protect your reputation, you claim, “It’s done” but... it’s still on the drawing board? Or you have loved ones who would be hurt by the truth... so you lie to “protect” their feelings. Ultimately, lying compromises your character. You cannot intentionally lie and live a life of integrity. You cannot periodically lie and expect to enjoy a life of peace. The Bible clearly states...
“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.” (Proverbs 11:3)
