Overview

An enriching companion to Terry L. Johnson’s popular Family Worship Book

The practice of family worship has been a foundation stone of faith for many families across many generations. In his book The Family Worship Book, Terry L. Johnson aided families to have meaningful times of devotion together. In this supplement to The Family Worship Book Terry L. Johnson seeks to strengthen, clarify and enrich those devotions.

He begins by looking at the godly home, which provides the vital context in which family worship occurs. Then the biblical and theological arguments for daily family worship in are examined drawing from the Old and New Testaments as well as the classic authors.

Once the case for family worship has been made, Johnson then moves on to develop the elements or practices of which family worship consists, as well as helpful tips for establishing the discipline practice of family worship. Finally, he discusses catechizing. Together, this monogram provides a feast of classic Reformed insight.

--Bill Barcley, Senior Pastor, Sovereign Grace Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, North Carolina Adjunct Professor of New Testament, Reformed Theological Seminary

Clear, concise, and compelling, it grips the soul with a divine imperative and yet, warms the heart with the friendly touch of a father’s hand upon the shoulder. I feel sure my family shall be very much the better for its arrival, and yours can be too if you will but read, mark, learn, and practically apply its truth to your most precious of all possessions – your family.

--Neil Stewart, Pastor, Christ Covenant Church, Greensboro, North Carolina

I learn something from Terry Johnson about historic Christian worship (whether public, private or family) every time I read him. This book (a wonderful companion to my well–worn copy of his Family Worship Book) is not only a practical help to families seeking to strengthen (or begin) their practice of family devotions, but has multiple other uses and applications. It is something that I will use with those preparing for the ministry. Its rich devotional and historical theological insights have already blessed me as I read it myself.

--Ligon Duncan, Chancellor and CEO, Reformed Theological Seminary
