St. Francis de Sales is a good mentor and teacher for this century. The human heart hasn't really changed much in the past half-millennium. His Introduction to the Devout Live and treatise On the Love of God are essential texts for developing one's own love for others and cutting down tendencies toward sin. I cannot recommend him highly enough, and I would be remiss to not point out this collection as well, which contains some of his most theological teachings (particularly great for understanding his counter-reformation apologetics): https://www.logos.com/product/45319/select-works-of-st-francis-de-sales
