Overview

The Modern English Version (MEV) is the most modern translation produced in the King James tradition in 30 years. The Modern English Version (MEV) is a translation of the Textus Receptus and the Jacob ben Hayyim edition of the Masoretic Text, using the King James Version as the base manuscript. The MEV is a literal word-for-word translation. It is also often referred to as a formal correspondence translation. The Committee on Bible Translation began their work on the MEV in 2005 and completed it in 2013.

Translated by top theologians from every major Christian faith tradition, the MEV is a faithful representation of the original text and historical context without political, ideological, social, cultural or theological agendas distorting the translation.

Most Highlighted Verses in Modern English Version

2 Chronicles 7:14–15: if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer of this place.

Proverbs 4:23: Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.

Romans 3:20: Therefore by the works of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

Romans 6:11–14: Likewise, you also consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but yield yourselves to God, as those who are alive from the dead, and your bodies to God as instruments of righteousness.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away. Look, all things have become new.

2 Corinthians 10:3–6: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

Philippians 1:6: I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:13: For God is the One working in you, both to will and to do His good pleasure.

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to show yourself approved by God, a workman who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Revelation 1:3: Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy and keep those things which are written in it, for the time is near.

The MEV provides a unique cross-denominational approach to the translation of the Bible with an aim of giving fresh insight into the meaning of the Scriptures while staying true to the original intent of the authors. The end result is a translation that will be tremendously helpful for those in ministry and those who wish to know the Word of God in a more intimate way.

—N. Blake Hearson, associate professor of Old Testament and Hebrew, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

I expect that this translation will be readily understood by thoughtful readers of the Bible even as they find the classic truths of eternity expressed in understandable language of today’s English speaker.

—Jonathan M. Watt, adjunct professor of biblical studies, Geneva College

Terrific achievement, a breath of fresh air.

Michael Brown, syndicate radio host, Line of Fire

The MEV fits within the tradition of the original KJV. It is a clear and concise translation that has the feel of the KJV but is updated and eminently more readable for today. It will be an encouragement to all but especially to the modern military men and women for whom the translation was initiated. I look forward to giving my son and his wife, both army medics, copies for their personal devotions.

Eric Mitchell, associate professor of Old Testament and Archaeology, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

The MEV has credibility. I recommend it to the other leaders for spiritual formation and discipleship.

Jack Hayford, founding pastor, The Church on the Way

The MEV is a clear and concise translation that will appeal to modern Bible readers.

Stanley M. Horton, distinguished professor emeritus, Assemblies of God Theological Seminary

I was looking for a version that was close to KJV but with an updated English version. I found the AKJV but sadly it wasn't on Logos, so I decided to give MEV a try. I like it.

If you are on this page, you are more than likely someone who strongly prefers, or only uses, the KJV. This translation follows in the footsteps of the KJV, NKJV, and the ones that came before. If you prefer the King James, but aren't King James Only, then this might be a good translation to add to your collection. If you are somehow here, and you don't prefer the KJV, then maybe give this translation a shot. It isn't my favorite, but I am glad to see there is still room for a modern translation that sticks with the same source material as the KJV.

I'm a faithful follower of the NASB, but I'm disappointed with the coming new update changes in 2021. My interest has now moved to the MEV, but I need to know if Logos has begun to work on the reverse-interlinear. If there are no plans for it, please let me know. Thank you.

The Modern English Version is the BEST Textus Receptus-based English translation. Yes, I said it. Just as the KJV was the best of it's time, as is the MEV for today. The differences are not just changing TH at the end of words to S, but also fixing the Granville Sharp constructions. They also fixed Hell to Hades and Gehenna where needed and Kill to murder in the ten commandments. In these minor changes, the MEV is more understandable and concise than the KJV without losing the reverence and Majesty of the Authorized Version. Even staunch KJV-only folks should give this translation some serious consideration.
