Digital Logos Edition
How someone sees Scripture directly correlates with how one sees life. If Jesus Christ is seen organically and meaningfully in every part of Scripture, then he will be seen that way in every aspect of life. As lofty as that might sound, the inverse is also true: if it is a struggle to see Christ organically and meaningfully in various parts of Scripture, then it will be a struggle to see him that way in various aspects of life.
The purpose of this book is to help readers engage in God’s word so that Christ is beheld in every part of both Scripture and life, by offering an approach to Scripture that is from Scripture itself. Thus, the heart of this approach is to engage in God’s word as he himself intends. As a result, readers will see that all of Scripture is grounded, saturated, and culminating in Christ alone; and in turn, that all of life is grounded, saturated, and culminating in Christ alone.

Yuh has written a short, accessible introduction to a redemptive-historical approach to Scripture which highlights its organic coherence and its culmination in the person of Jesus Christ, especially his death and resurrection. The argument is illuminated by numerous helpful diagrams and charts, and it outlines a hermeneutical approach which—in my opinion—is likely to be especially fruitful for devotional reading and Christocentric preaching. Though based on solid scholarship, it communicates effectively to a broad audience and is provided with useful ‘questions for reflection and prayer.’

Jason writes with the heart and voice of a pastor. He offers several thoughtful principles for interpreting Scripture, but two are especially noteworthy. First, he underscores the vital distinction between the Creator and creation, an essential lens through which the entire Bible should be read. Second, he affirms that we see Christ in every part of Scripture. These insights reflect a theological conviction and pastoral sensitivity that will enrich a reader’s engagement with God’s word.
——Peter Robinson, Professor of Proclamation, Worship, and Ministry, Wycliffe College, University of Toronto
This book will help you see how all of Scripture coheres in Christ, and what that means for your life.
——Brandon D. Crowe, Professor of New Testament, Westminster Theological Seminary
It has been rightly said that one important way of viewing the past two millennia of church history is as a dialogue with holy Scripture. And a critical part of that dialogue is how best to interpret the word of God. This fresh study of the hermeneutical task by a gifted biblical scholar, Jason Yuh, re-focuses our interpretative gaze on what must be central in any prolonged and deep reading of the Bible: Jesus Christ. Highly recommended!
——Michael A.G. Azad Haykin, Professor of Church History, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
To read Scripture as centered on Christ is not to force him into the details of texts from which he is ostensibly absent. Instead, it is to see how Scripture reveals God’s character, the plight of sinful humanity, and the role of God’s people in such a way that the texts themselves establish trajectories culminating in Christ. As it is Written and Intended is a helpful, practical guide to interpreting biblical narratives in this way, leading us deeper into the witness of all of Scripture to Christ.
——Stephen Chester, Lord and Lady Coggan Professor of New Testament, Wycliffe College, University of Toronto
To resist the rise of Moralistic Therapeutic Deism, the next generation must see Christ as central to both life and the world. This vision begins by recognizing him as the protagonist of Scripture and the lens through which we understand God’s truth and the story of the world. As It Is Written and Intended, by Jason Yuh, offers a compelling, theologically rich guide to reclaiming this Christ-centered perspective in both Scripture and life.
