The book of Jonah has always been intriguing to me, especially knowing that this book was my first sermon. The year was 1980 and in the spring of that year, the Lord called me to preach. I announced my calling on a Sunday morning and as my pastor was shaking hands after the service, he told me I needed to get myself a tie, because I was going to preach the following Sunday night. I was beyond nervous, yet excited knowing I was going to preach.
It was with great excitement and expectations that I poured over my little blue Dollar Store bible. Before the week was over, I was ready to preach from the book of Jonah. On that Sunday night, I read chapter one and I preached, though I did not want to leave him in the belly of that fish, so after a good hour of preaching, I covered all four books, and I have never looked back.
Since that was my first sermon and I literally preached for an hour, I have spent the last 43 years learning how to cut down on the length of my sermons. There is a difference in getting up and saying something and getting up, because you have something to say. The real man of God gets up to preach because he has something to say.
You will enjoy the four sermons that are in this book. The book was written with the idea of other preachers using it, possibly on Sunday mornings or as a bible study on Wednesday nights. As of the time of the printing of this book, I have not used it in our church yet, thought I will be using it on Wednesday nights, as we do our weekly bible studies.
Hopefully this book has been a blessing to you and offered you some insight into this awesome Old Testament book. If you liked this book and would like to purchase more of my materials, that would be a blessing to me. There are numerous options for you to purchase my writings.
