Overview

Anyone who reads the Bible will soon realize that the Jewish people are the apple of God’s eye. Israel, they will quickly see, is the centerpiece of divine, prophetic activity. Since God’s Word places such an emphasis on this tiny nation, it seems only logical that the question of Israel is central for a proper understanding of the Scriptures. Some may ask: Hasn’t the church replaced Israel? Aren’t all born-again believers in Messiah Jesus “spiritual Jews”? Questions like these may only be answered on the basis of a proper systematic theology, one that includes a biblically developed Israelology. This work investigates four approaches to the theology of Israel past, present, and future, and scrutinizes beliefs that tend to confuse the identities of both Israel and the church.

The work is based on the author’s dissertation titled, Israelology: The Missing Link in Systematic Theology and published by Ariel Ministries. The Biblical Evangelist called Israelology a “tremendous, masterful book. Amillennialism, postmillennialism, and other forms of covenant theology go up in smoke under the withering blaze of biblical light Fruchtenbaum places on them.” The abridged version focuses on the heart of Dr. Fruchtenbaum's dissertation and offers a revised and updated text as well as charts and illustrations to enhance the understanding of this important study.

Hi Fred! It's great to hear from you. I appreciate you taking the time to join in. The reason I hold to the belief that the nation of Israel will one day be restored is due to the number of unfulfilled prophecies connected to her future. Since Pentecost, individual Jews have come to faith in Christ. But as we all agree in 70 AD, the nation of Israel has been set aside, prophesied by Christ in Luke (Luke 21:10–24)...this key phrase is in Luke 21:12 "But before all these things" which reference Luke 21:10-11 (Tribulation). Here is a list of some of these unfulfilled prophecies which must and will be fulfilled: The Land Promise (Abrahamic Covenant): The Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 12:1-3; 15:18-21) includes an unconditional promise of land to Abraham's descendants. Israel has never fully possessed the boundaries of the land even under Solomon's rule as described in Genesis 15, suggesting that the complete fulfillment will occur during the Millennial Kingdom when they inherit all of the land promised to Abraham. (Ezekiel 45-50) The Davidic Covenant: The Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7:12-16/1 Chronicles 17:4–15) promises an eternal kingdom through David's lineage. This promise includes the reign of the Messianic King from the line of David over Israel. Jesus Christ will fulfill this promise by ruling from Jerusalem over Israel during the Millennial Kingdom, establishing David’s throne forever. Exaltation Above the Nations in the last days: Prophecies such as Isaiah 2:2-4 and Micah 4:1-3 indicate that Israel will be exalted above the nations, with Jerusalem becoming the center of worship and instruction. The nations will come to Israel to seek the Lord, demonstrating the exaltation of Israel as the leading nation during the Millennial Kingdom. The New Covenant: The New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34) promises spiritual regeneration and a renewed relationship with God for the nation of Israel. This covenant was not made with the church but between Jesus Her Messiah (Luke 22:20) and Israel. The church get's access the New Covenant though repentance and faith in Christ being grafted in (Romans 11) The New Covenant has not been fully realized for the nation but it has been fulfilled for individual Jews as well as gentiles. Jesus in Acts 1:6-7 clearly speaks of a future time of Israel's restoration and Peter at Pentecost Acts 2 speaks of a future time when Israel is restored in the Millennial Kingdom, with God placing His law within them and forgiving their iniquity, resulting in a transformed, obedient nation. The Nations come to Jerusalem to worship Jesus ruling and reigning(Zechariah 14:16–18) - This has never happened. The land will be transformed into a garden: Amos 9:14-15 and Isaiah 60 describe a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity for Israel, where they will rebuild cities, enjoy agricultural abundance, and never be uprooted from their land again. This kind of peace and prosperity has never been fully experienced by Israel, indicating its fulfillment during the Millennial Kingdom. The animals have changed: Isaiah 11:1–10 wold will dwell with the lamb The church will return to earth to serve and reign with Christ (2 Timothy 2:12) (Revelation 20:6) The new temple has not been built: Ezekiel 40-44 No doubt more can be said...but these examples are proof, that Israel is only temporary set aside. There is more trouble ahead for her (Zechariah 13:8–9) but a portion will be rescued and the nation will finally receive all here promises. Daniel and others are awaiting their inheritance: Daniel 12:13 | 13 “But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age.”

The only Person's opinion that matters is the Lord Jesus Christ's. And He declared Biblical Israel would be destroyed. Destroyed it was about 70AD. Hear Him: And He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to vine-growers, and went on a journey for a long time. “And at the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, so that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the vine-growers sent him away empty-handed having beaten him. “And he proceeded to send another slave; and when they beat him also and treated him shamefully, they sent him away empty-handed. “And he proceeded to send a third; and this one also they wounded and cast out. “Now the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’ “But when the vine-growers saw him, they were reasoning with one another, saying, ‘This is the heir; let us kill him so that the inheritance will be ours.’ “So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What, then, will the owner of the vineyard do to them? "He will come and destroy these vine-growers and will give the vineyard to others.” Luke 20:9–16 That's Christ Himself declaring His Church would become Spiritual Israel...the ONLY Israel. I recognize this is greatly at odds with the typical "theology" of the American church, but no matter how "accepted" a certain doctrine is, if it contradicts Christ, IT IS NOT TRUE.
