Edward Dorr Griffin

Edward D. Griffin (1770–1837) was a pastor and a professor of rhetoric. He attended Yale College with the initial intent to become a lawyer, but in 1792 Griffin began his ministry, and in 1808 he earned his Doctorate of Divinity from Union College. A few years later, he became the pastor of Park Street Church, where he preached a well-known sermon series opposing New Divinity. Griffin then served as president of Williams College from 1821 to 1836. Fifty-nine of Griffin’s sermons appear in The Life and Sermons of Edward D. Griffin (2 vols.).
