John Fiske (1842–1901), born Edmund Fiske Green, was an American philosopher, historian, and Harvard professor. Fiske dedicated most of his time to history, and lectured annually on American history at Washington University in St. Louis, in Great Britain at University College London, and at the Royal Institution of Great Britain. He is the author of many books on U.S. history, including The Critical Period of American History, 1783–89, Civil Government of the United States, and The Discovery of America.
