When someone becomes a Christian, they enter into a lifelong journey of God-driven transformation into the likeness of Christ. But what does this transformation process look like, and what means does God use to bring about spiritual growth? How does a Christian continue growing spiritually? How do they prevent the practice of the spiritual discipline of meditating on God's word from become mechanical when they may have read through the Bible many times? How do they mature in prayer? And how do they continue being conformed to the image of Christ for the rest of their lives rather than simply putting their spiritual gearstick into neutral and coasting into eternity? This book seeks to answer such questions. It begins by exploring the contours of this spiritual transformation into Christlikeness before introducing various means God uses to bring this about. The book seeks to give hope and instruction, both to the weary and to the strong, so that they can grow more like Christ through the means of grace that God has provided.
“I teach this topic to seminarians, and the opening chapter
beautifully clarifies, focuses, and extends our understanding of
spiritual formation. The centering on the progressive work of God
is so important and a delight to read. I intend including it in our
course.”
—Archie Poulos, Moore Theological College
“Andrew Prince’s capacity for spiritual expression is superbly
evidenced in How Christians Grow. This is a soul-refreshing
read. Drawing on Scripture, anecdotes, and his own enduring walk
with Jesus, Prince stirs our hearts about weighty matters with
eternal implications. You will be surprised by the punch this
little book packs. Its precepts will stay with you for a long, long
time.”
—Simon Longden, CEO, Pioneers of Australia
“As a fellow traveler on the road to Christian maturity, Andrew
Prince gives us both a solid theological framework as well as
concrete practical steps in the lifelong process of growing into
Christ likeness. As your read, you will feel as if a friend walks
with you and talks you through your growth in Christ. This is a
book that will provide hope and guidance in this journey.”
—David Riddell, international director, World Team Global
“Don’t be fooled by this book’s simple title and brevity. It offers
deep reflection, drawing on years of experience, reading, and
teaching. Christians often fail to thrive, whether as newborns or
mature believers. Here is a guide for those whose development has
been arrested or slowed, but who want ‘to put on the new self,
created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and
holiness’ (Eph 4:24).”
—Richard J. Gibson, Brisbane School of Theology
