Overview

The second coming is perhaps the most confusing, controversial, and contentious of biblical doctrines. In The Lost Message of the End Times, Ian Miller guides the reader through the many Old and New Testament prophecies that speak of Jesus’s return. As he does so, he brings their powerful, hope-filled, faith-inspiring, and life-changing message to life. With clear and easily understood explanations, this book will show you how the Scriptures reveal a world of promise, not fear; a kingdom present, not to come; and the powerful bride as she is, not one that needs to be raptured away.

For those who would like a short, easy-to-read book that offers a non-Dispensational (think “Left Behind” series) view of the Return of Christ, then this is a worthwhile book to read. Curiously, the author begins with his conversion in 1980 in Redcliffe, Queensland. At that time and only a few kilometres away, I was coming out of a church that taught Dispensational Eschatology as the only view “real” Christians believed. A Reformed Baptist church invited me to join them. The church was quite Amillennial, and it introduced me to several books that cover similar things as this one does. While I agree with much (if not most) of what the author writes, I was disappointed that I found his approach to be “too certain”. He uses the same dogmatic approach that the books on “popular Eschatology” use. Rather than suggest alternatives, he supplies the “correct” meaning. He overlooks the fact that varied views exist on these topics. I dislike being presented with false dichotomies. I believe he exaggerates the popularity of dispensationalism, especially outside of American Evangelical circles. He has some worthwhile books in his recommended reading :) Newer Christians seeking knowledge of Christ’s return would benefit from reading it.
