Overview
This massive collection from IVP combines the Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries (TOTC) and the Tyndale New Testament Commentaries (TNTC) to provide an exposition of Scripture that is thorough and abreast of modern scholarship, yet at the same time loyal to Scripture as the infallible Word of God. The Tyndale Commentaries Series has long been a trusted resource for Bible study. Written by some of the world’s most distinguished evangelical scholars, each book offers clear, reliable, and relevant expositions.
The Tyndale Commentaries are designed to help the reader of the Bible understand what the text says and what it means. The Introduction to each book gives a concise but thorough treatment of its authorship, date, original setting and purpose. Following a structural analysis, the Commentary takes the book section-by-section, drawing out its main themes, and also comments on individual verses and problems of interpretation. Additional Notes provide fuller discussion of particular difficulties. The aim throughout is to explain the true meaning of the Bible and make its message plain.

They're usually pretty solid. They have the right balance of depth and clarity. A number of these commentaries are listed in the top ten of the Logos list of "Best Commentaries". The price is good as well. *This review is not an endorsement of women teaching men (e.g. Joyce Baldwin in the 2 Samuel volume from 1988).Michael Sobol

Before reading my review, I need to let you know I prefer depth in commentaries. When I see phrases like "section by section" that is a clue that these are not deep but more of an overview. When I was saved back in the 1980's I purchased what was available of these in paper and was happy with them. As I grew in the Lord and Bible study, these books turned into being more like an "appetizer". I prefer "verse by verse" commentaries because I like to get into the original language for more than one or two words in a "section" of scripture. If you are looking for something easy to read that is more of an overview, then these may be great for you! I have other commentaries that are not verse by verse that I fall back on when needed to look at the whole. I enjoyed my time in Tyndale, but when I purchased Logos back in the early 1990's, I did not buy any ebooks from this commentary set. I kept my paper ones of Tyndale for about 5 more years then gave them away.

Such a great improvement over the previous iteration of the Tyndale Commentaries. The Tyndale Heritage commentaries barely scratched the surface. The current editions (still in production) are solid, thorough, and insightful ... and include a taste of Biblical theology. They may not be equal to some of the more noteable (and costly) series, but they are well worth it.
