Digital Logos Edition
What the apostle Paul has to say is transformative and utterly inspiring. But too often he is clouded in complicated explanations and murky misunderstandings. Paul Distilled gets to the essence of Paul, and uncovers what is at the heart of his thinking and why he’s had such an impact on the world since the first century until today. Drawing on many years of teaching and study of Paul’s writings, Gary Burnett explains the driving forces behind the apostle’s thinking from the letters he wrote to groups of Jesus-followers dotted around the Roman empire, addressing the real issues they faced, and shows why this matters today. A study guide with each chapter will enable church groups to get to grips with the life-changing potential of understanding Paul better.

“Gary Burnett has an academic mind, a devotional heart, and a
cultural perception. This unique blend gives him the ability to

“In this gem Gary Burnett is inviting us to see beyond Paul, ‘the
theologian,’ and offering a view of the trees in the forest of
interpretations, providing us with an opportunity to engage the
core of Paul’s experience—keenly helping us to become in
essence more meaningful theologians.”
—Raymond Carr, Assistant Professor of Theology and Ethics,
Pepperdine University
“I have loved Gary’s latest book, Paul Distilled. Having
listened to the original series I wondered could they be bettered,
and they are! Gary captures the heart of Paul coupled with biblical
accuracy and insights into the text while bringing practical
challenge to his readers. This is a book which exudes with joy,
life, and gives the reader a fresh desire to serve God with
passion. I thoroughly recommend it to you.”
—Paul Reid, Pastor Emeritus, Christian Fellowship Church, Belfast,
Ireland
“As a master distiller, Gary Burnett builds on the foundational
flavor of Paul’s understanding of God’s love before mixing in the
more complex elements of Paul’s theology, moderated with personal
narratives. The result is a full-bodied, well-balanced, and very
accessible book. Paul Distilled is an excellent introduction
to Paul while providing wonderful flavor notes for the
well-informed reader.”
—Neil Craigan, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, White Bear Lake,
Minnesota
“Paul Distilled gives us access to the apostle in
first-century Rome and makes connections to our world and faith in
practical and powerful ways. References to song lyrics will make
you smile and contemplate the true meaning of love.”
—Sarah Whittle, Research Fellow in Biblical Studies, Nazarene
Theological College
“‘Contextualization’ has become a buzzword in theological studies
in recent years. Burnett skillfully considers how the original
textual context should influence our interpretation of Pauline
theology in the contexts in which we find ourselves today. Drawing
on his years of study and teaching, Burnett sums up the ‘essence of
Paul’ in a way that is accessible to those who simply wish to
deepen their knowledge, and thought-provoking for those undertaking
Pauline studies. I will be recommending it for years to
come.”
—Janet Unsworth, Director of Theological Education and Principal,
