Bible Study – The Roadmap to a Successful Christian Walk
If you are traveling to a new place and you don’t bother to look at your map, chances are you won’t get there. If you do, it will probably take you a lot longer than you had planned. You may end up going to some places you hadn’t intended to. Trips are much easier if you keep your map handy and reference it often. If you wait until you are lost to pull out your map, you waste valuable time and effort.
Many Christians today complain that they don’t know what God wants them to do. Could it be that this is because they haven’t taken a good look at the map lately? The Bible is God’s roadmap for our lives. In it, He tells us how to walk, what to do, and where we are going. All the instructions a Christian needs to guide him through life are contained in those pages. So how do we find them? Through Bible study.
Bible Study is a vital part of Christian life. God has given us His Word to guide, instruct, and encourage us. Listening to a preacher on Sunday, though very valuable, is not enough. We must take the time to delve into God’s word through personal Bible study to receive the full benefit of it. If we are faithful to study the map God has given us and seek his path for our lives, He will guide us, even if it is just one step at a time.
Bible study brings to light the desires of God for our lives. It shows us that if we are obeying and seeking God, everything that happens along the way will work together for our good (Rom 8:28). Through Bible study, we also see that if we trust God and recognize Him as the authority in our lives, he will show us the path He has for us (Prv 3:6). These and many other scriptures give the Christian hope and assurance, but if he does not take the time to study his Bible, he may never know these promises.
Each person’s life is a journey. If you don’t stop and look at the map, you will still end up somewhere, but it may not be where you had planned on going. Or, perhaps you will make it to your destination, but you are certain to get lost along the way. A healthy Christian is confident that he is going where God wants him, because he is spending time in Bible study.
