Overview

Christians today are inundated with more false teaching than ever before. It comes from books, magazines, seminars, televangelists, pastors, and Bible teachers within our churches. In addition to the bombardment of conflicting statements and teachings, many Christians are confused and wonder how to determine what is God’s truth.

Top Highlights

“that it is the divinely given ability to distinguish God’s thoughts and ways from all others” (Page 49)

“Spiritual discernment means just that: discernment that is given by the Spirit of God” (Page 48)

“What it teaches—everywhere—is that any thought or way that is not wholly God’s is altogether wrong and must be rejected. According to the Bible, a miss is as good as a mile. There is only one God, and there is only one way of life—His!” (Page 29)

“Certainly, neither you nor I want to develop a judgmental spirit. But we must cultivate a discerning spirit” (Page 36)

“The Hebrew term bin, which is used 247 times in the Old Testament, has been translated in various ways—‘understand, discern, distinguish.’ It is related to the noun bayin, which means ‘interval’ or ‘space between,’ and the preposition ben, ‘between.’ In essence it means to separate things from one another at their points of difference in order to distinguish them. It refers to the process by which one comes to know or understand God’s thoughts and ways through separating those things that differ. Discernment is skill in reaching understanding and knowledge by the use of a process of separation.” (Page 46)
