Overview

Edited by David Platt, Daniel L. Akin, and Tony Merida, this new commentary series, projected to be 48 volumes, takes a Christ-centered approach to expositing each book of the Bible. Rather than a verse-by-verse approach, the authors have crafted chapters that explain and apply key passages in their assigned Bible books. Readers will learn to see Christ in all aspects of Scripture, and they will be encouraged by the devotional nature of each exposition.

Exalting Jesus in Ephesians is written by Tony Merida.

Top Highlights

“Ephesians magnifies the importance of the church, perhaps more than any other New Testament letter.” (Ephesians 1:1–2)

“Ephesians divides naturally into two parts: who we are in Christ (our position), and how we are to live in Christ (our practice).” (source)

“An important application we can discern from these texts relates to trials and the will of God. Just because something is difficult does not mean you have moved out of the will of God. The will of God does not mean you are free from opposition. In fact, opportunities and opposition are often mingled together.” (Ephesians 1:1b)

“He states that works simply are not the root of our salvation. They are the fruit of salvation” (Ephesians 2:10)

“Third, the passage itself shows the necessity of personal belief in the gospel” (Ephesians 1:3–6)
