Top Highlights

“The book of Ezekiel does not leave its readers in the dark about the time at which his words were uttered. We find in it no fewer than fourteen precise dates for individual oracles, visions or reports of the prophet’s experiences.” (Page 9)

“By his exact dating of a considerable number of prophetic oracles the book of Ezekiel stands closest perhaps to the prophetic books of Haggai and Zechariah.” (Page 9)

“So from the dates that are given in the book of Ezekiel itself we can accept as appropriate a position in the period between Jeremiah on the one hand and Haggai-Zechariah on the other.” (Page 9)

“The overall result of these considerations can only lead to the conclusion that the dates of the book of Ezekiel deserve our basic confidence.” (Page 10)

“The call of the prophet (1:1ff*), according to the same reckoning, took place on July 31, 593,72 and the date of the latest oracle (29:17*) on April 26, 571.” (Page 11)
