Emphasizing the authority and importance of the Bible is a hallmark of evangelicalism. Evangelical pastors encourage their congregations to obey Scripture as an expression of love for Christ. But how does deference for Scripture extend to the structure and management of a church? John Temple argues that when building a church, evangelicals often focus on temporal law, tradition, or culture—regarding the biblical requirements as mere suggestion.

Temple explains how the Bible should be our starting point as we endeavor to “render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s,” and observe secondarily only those elements of law, tradition, or culture which are not in conflict with the Bible. Bible-Centered Church provides practical advice on how to apply the Bible to church organization and governance.

John Temple is the author of Make Your Church’s Money Work and Family Money Matters: How to Run Your Family Finances to God’s Glory. Temple spent his early life as an entrepreneur and business executive. He has served churches in a variety of capacities—youth leader to elder. He has helped plant four churches and has guided several others to a more biblical organization.
