Overview

The book is a useful tool for a number of reasons: 1) It covers all the Aramaic portions of the Old Testament, therefore students and scholars do not have to page through the Bible from Genesis to Malachi in order to analyse some of the major areas in their morphological study; 2) There is no need to consult the Lexica, unless for a more profound examination of semantics in terms of its cognate languages, or multiple meanings of a particular term; 3) An instant way is provided to find the root word of a certain lexical entry. Most Bible students will admit that it can sometimes be frustrating to search for Hebrew and Aramaic words in a Lexicon without knowing its root word; 4) The value of each abbreviation appear at the beginning of the book; 5) The student/scholar/pastor is now well equipped with everything on one single page: a) a literal translation of English directly from the Massoretic Text; b) the English equivalent for each Hebrew and Aramaic word; c) the parsing or grammatical value of each word in Daniel and Ezra; d) rootwords (in most cases triligual) of each term, except where stated “unknown”; and finally e) to take note of the endnotes in which the differences are pointed out among the Dead Sea Scrolls, Massoretic Text and the Septuagint.

  • Covers all the Aramaic portions of the Old Testament for streamlined morphological study
  • Provides an instant way to find the root word of a certain lexical entry, alleviating frustration
  • Equips the user with everything on one single page: translation, equivalents, parsing, rootwords, and textual differences

Leander Bertram Chalice is assistant professor of Old Testament in the theology department at Sahmyook University. He earned his BA in theology from Andrews University and his MA in Hebrew and ancient Near Eastern studies from the University of Sellenbosch, South Africa.
