Overview

The renowned author and Catholic monk presents a timeless exploration of the liturgical year, its celebrations, and its meanings.
The reforms of the Second Vatican Council of 1962-65 included a profound liturgical renewal. Inspired by those changes, Thomas Merton offered this volume, first published in 1965—a fresh contemplation of the seasons and holidays, and how they enrich our spiritual lives. Combining deep learning with a contemporary and accessible communication style, Merton’s Seasons of Celebration will deepen our appreciation of the cycles and traditions of Christian worship.

Thomas Merton, O.C.S.O. (January 31, 1915 – December 10, 1968) was a 20th century Anglo-American Catholic writer. A Trappist monk of the Abbey of Gethsemani, Kentucky, he was a poet, social activist and student of comparative religion. In 1949, he was ordained to the priesthood and given the name Father Louis.
