Overview

The Divorce of Israel presents a “redemptive-historical” approach to Revelation. In it John presents a forensic drama wherein God is divorcing his old covenant wife Israel so that he can take a new wife, the new covenant “Israel of God” composed of Jew and Gentile alike.

Thus, Revelation presents the vitally important redemptive-historical transition from the land-based, ethnically focused, temple-dominated old covenant economy to its worldwide, pan-ethnic, spiritual new covenant fulfillment. And it does so by highlighting God’s judgment upon first-century geo-political Israel.

  • Presents a forensic drama wherein God is divorcing his old covenant wife Israel.
  • Exposes the vitally important redemptive-historical transition from the land-based.
  • Highlights God’s judgment upon first-century geo-political Israel.

I own the books & would love the digital for ease of note making. The book is well written. Easy to follow. Scholarly, with lots of quoted ancient sources. Well organized & exhaustive. And the exegesis & logic is sound. You can disagree with it, but the above facts make it a 5 star book. It is sad that people come here & place 1 star reviews without considering the great service this analysis does, apparently they believe that you need to agree to benefit & rate it 5 stars. It is like an Armenian giving 1 star reviews to all Calvinist books no matter how well written simply because he does not believe in predestination. Well I don’t believe in predestination & still give 5 star reviews on a well written Calvinist book even if I disagree. I learn their arguments & sharpen my sword on it. If God divorced Israel then understand that God makes the relationship conditional & Israel failed to meet conditions. If they broke the conditions then God is no liar. Now read & analyze the book for yourself. And whether you agree or disagree, see how well written & thought out his argument is. Worthy of 5 stars for sure, the book should cost way more money. If you disagree, it is ok, sharpen your sword by learning the arguments, then go write your own 2 volume book with sources & disprove him.

Please, please, please publish this. It is a view that needs a fuller hearing and given some of the nasty shots taken at it in this thread, it's all the more essential that readers get a knowledge of the redemptive historical view. They can reject after learning what it is which is the proper order of things, or who knows maybe some minds can be changed.

Obviously Gentry is going to get some negative reviews from the PremilDispy's because when you read his work you will leave that new teaching as fast as you can! They don't want you to read his work so they can keep promoting such a destructive eschatology. Just remember, the religious in Jesus' day would have given His teachings 2 1/2 stars as well!

Ugh. G-d has not divorced His chosen people. ALL of His promises He keeps, and if he decided to divorce Israel, He would become a liar. G-d cannot lie because every word from His mouth creates truth. If he divorced Israel, what will stop Him from divorcing the church - even the one made up of Christians and former Jews?

It is sad to me that people like Gentry continue to successfully promote their heresies (sorry to offend). i.e., replacement theology and preterism, preterism will lead you into all kinds of other heresies. If you accept the so-called exegesis of the preterist movement, then you are prone. These views come from poor exegesis and in elevating yourself and your own reason over the authority of the text. There are solid reasons to reject his teachings. But everyone has a right to their own opinions (and it is an opinion - certainly not good exegesis).

I hope it will soon be released. This is definitely Ken's Magnum Opus (he has done a lot of previous work and study on Revelation). It is easy to read and very helpful (I have his two volume hardback) . Gentry has done a great service in his exegesis of this difficult book as well as what is called "excursus" and also interacts with other commentaries on Revelation. By having it on Logos would be even more helpful. Can't wait for it to happen = "soon/very near"

This needs to be published by Logos. I believe it is valuable alternative commentary on Revelation. Please publish. I am disappointed that interest is not higher but believe it is just because the Logos family does not yet know its value. I really look forward to adding this to my Logos library.

This would have been an instant-buy if it was available today! Do you think it will gather enough interest to be released? Gentry's other works on Revelation are both easy to read and very interesting. I have high hopes for this commentary.
