Holy Scripture bears witness to life as God intended it and intends it still. It also witnesses to what has been made of life east of Eden. Preaching and poetic witness to life "through faith for faith" (Rom 1:17), therefore, must be attempted with humility and with empathy for all sorts and conditions of human being, looking to Jesus who "humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross" (Phil 2:8).

“There are few if any stewards of the Word as well-spoken as Chuck Bartow, who both embodies and brings together here the fruits of a rare confluence of faith, joy, insight, wisdom, creativity, and theological integrity. Any book by Bartow is a signal event, but these selected sermons, poems (his own and his brother’s), and his libretto on the resurrection constitute a truly glorious testimony that warrants a heedful hearing. Read aloud . . . and listen!”

—Timothy Matthew Slemmons, professor of homiletics and worship, University of Dubuque Theological Seminary

“What a privilege to read this beautiful book! It flows out of the life of one of the most articulate, dedicated, and faithful servants of the Word of our times. It is full of wisdom, hope, and joy.”

—Richard Burnett, managing editor, Theology Matters
