Overview

The New King James Version is a total update of the 1611 King James Version (KJV), also known as the "Authorized Version." Every attempt has been made to maintain the beauty of the original version of the KJV Bible, while updating the English grammar to contemporary style and usage. The result is much better "readability." It is noteworthy that the NKJV is one of the few modern translations still based on the "Western" or "Byzantine" manuscript tradition. This makes the New King James Version an invaluable aid to comparative English Bible study.

I have three questions: (1) Can you in this digital version somehow substitute notes and corresponding parts in the New Testament, so as to have the critical text as the main NT text? (I want to have NU directly and M-notes and TR-notes.) (2) Will Logos have such a feature more generally (for different text resources), if possible and a good option? (3) Does anyone know if the NKJV will be updated with the latest scholarship (including a critical text as main text for NT)?

Why are there no verse numbers or headings in the Logos version of the NKJV? It is very difficult to locate a verse or a topic in the NKJV when they have been taken out. Why had Logos done this?

This version of the Bible is easy to read and understand. The footnotes are helpful, especially when there is an excision of the text in NU. For example, see Mark 16:9-20 where it says, "They are lacking in Codex Sinaiticus and Codes Vaticanus, although nearly all others mss. of Mark contain them." It is still a mystery to me why the same scholars used more than just Hebrew documents to translate the OT, but ignored anything that wasn't Greek when they came to the NT.

The NKJV is the only modern version to use the Majority or Byzantine text of the New Testament. All the others use an eclectic text from the minority text manuscripts. This is why I prefer it above all others as my base translation when comparing texts. it is an excellent modern English translation, retaining many of the timeless features of the KJV, yet avoiding all the archaisms of the 400 year old original. WONDERFUL STUFF.
