Overview

"What a wonderful antidote to all the evil done in the name of Jesus. If you are wounded with self-hatred . . . A Glimpse of Jesus is your balm." —Philip Gulley, bestselling author of the Harmony series
Beloved Christian writer Brennan Manning has long been illuminating the transforming power of God’s constant love for us in his bestselling books. Now he identifies self-hatred as the reason that so many of us seem unable to accept this incredible, unchanging love. By clearly examining and understanding Jesus’ life, we can put self-hatred behind us forever and truly be transformed in the ways God intended.
"In this compelling sequel to The Wisdom of Tenderness, former Franciscan priest Manning offers a radical portrait of discipleship for the modern church." — Publishers Weekly (starred review)
"Manning effectively leads readers on a journey of understanding and overcoming self-hatred. With an even mix of intelligent discourse and mental exercise geared toward healing one’s spiritual psyche, the author intends to help even the most stubborn heart to accept its weaknesses." — CCM Magazine (editor’s pick)
"The former Franciscan uses bible stories to demonstrate Jesus’ compassion and how loving God really is, versus how we have come to perceive him." — Booklist
"When a writer as knowledgeable and widely experienced as Brennan Manning states categorically that ‘self-hatred is the predominant spiritual problem that I’ve had to deal with in twenty-eight years as a vagabond evangelist,’ Christian readers would be wise to heed him. The author’s obvious integrity, honesty, and sincerity are as convincing as his arguments." — Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Brennan Manning

Brennan Manning (1934–2013) was a Franciscan priest, theology professor, and spiritual director. He studied at St. John’s University, the University of Missouri, St. Francis Seminary, Columbia University, and Catholic University of America.

Brennan’s ministry responsibilities over the years took him from the hallways of academia to the byways of the poor. In the mid-seventies Brennan resumed campus ministry at Broward Community College. His successful ministry was harshly interrupted, however, when he suffered a precipitate collapse into alcoholism. Six months of treatment restored his health and placed him on the road to recovery. It was at this point in his life that Brennan began writing in earnest.

Brennan traveled widely as he continued to write and preach, encouraging men and women everywhere to accept and embrace the good news of God’s unconditional love in Jesus Christ. He wrote many books, including All Is Grace: A Ragamuffin Memoir, Patched Together, and Abba’s Child
