Overview

Faith Facts: Answers to Catholic Questions, is a natural outgrowth of Emmaus Road Publishing’s popular Catholic Responses department, through which they have served thousands of people who have brought questions concerning the Catholic faith. Is there salvation outside of the Catholic Church? What does the Church teach about capital punishment? Faith Facts, vol. 2, brings you 22 more thoughtful answers, including what the Church teaches on the human knowledge of Christ, the annulment process, embryonic stem cell research, small communities of faith, and more.

Faith Facts strives to present sound, constructive teaching on a wide range of topics that are important to Catholics today. Each chapter also contains practical questions to facilitate small group discussions and to assist the reader in applying these teachings to his or her own life.

In the Logos edition, this valuable volume is enhanced by amazing functionality. Scripture citations link directly to English translations, and important terms link to dictionaries, encyclopedias, and a wealth of other resources in your digital library. Perform powerful searches to find exactly what you’re looking for. Take the discussion with you using tablet and mobile apps. “The Catholic Old Testament follows the Alexandrian canon of the Septuagint, the Old Testament which was translated into Greek around 250 B.C.3 The early Protestants followed the Palestiniancanon of Scripture, which was not officially recognized by Jews until around a.d. 100.” (Pages 125–126)

“laypeople distributing Communion while the priests refrain from doing so” (Page 38)

“Prior to Jesus’ time, the Jews did not have a universal, sharply defined canon of Scripture. Some groups of Jews used only the first five books of the Old Testament (the Pentateuch); some used only the Palestinian canon (thirty-nine books); some used the Alexandrian canon (forty-six books); and some, like the Dead Sea community, used all these and more. The Palestinian and Alexandrian canons were more normative than the others, having wider acceptance among orthodox Jews.” (Page 126)

“Those to whom the Church has not preached the Good News will be judged by God in a manner known to Him alone and tempered by His mercy.” (Page 17)

“Baptism and unity with the Catholic Church provide the only assurance of salvation, but not the only means of salvation.” (Page 23)

Without a doubt, Faith Facts will prove to be a valuable resource for members of the Catholic Church and for others who are seeking clear information about the Church and its teachings. Faith Facts is solid, comprehensive, concise, and interesting—a very impressive achievement! It will serve as a very useful complement to the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
