The book Isaiah 2 was written by August Pieper in German in 1919 and was translated by Erwin E. Kowalke into English 50 years later. This work defends Isaiah’s inspired authorship of chapters 40 to 66 against critics who would argue from a philosophical or rationalistic perspective. The text mirrors the effect of Hebrew poetry because Pieper rendered the 27 chapters as German blank verse. Kowalke then translated the German text using English blank verse to capture an idiomatic and readable style. Pieper’s exegesis is philogical rather than practical. Accurate and scholarly, it will aid the researcher toward a more thorough understanding of this great prophetic book.
