The great Christian thinker and author C. S. Lewis said that often it is not teaching that we require; occasionally what we need is a reminder of what we already know. In this collection of meditations, my son, Nathanael, and I hope to remind you of what you already know--that we belong to a God that seeks a relationship with us. God is not content with our admiration. God desires a relationship in which we are eager to know more and to experience more of God's power, love, and strength for the challenges that we must confront each day. Intentional time each day engaging God's word in the Bible provides fresh inspiration and increases our desire to reach the next concentric circle in our relationship with God.
“This book is an invitation to enter a world where biblical
texts come alive and centuries-old characters speak truth and
wisdom. It’s an invitation to enter a world where God is active and
faith is real. And then—and this is the volume’s true strength—the
book helps us realize this described world isn’t some imagined
destination; rather, it’s the very place in which we live and
breathe.”
—Greg Rapier, associate pastor, First Presbyterian Church of
Delray Beach
“In this book, you will see evidence of the personal spirituality
and literary talents of both the father and son. Doug and Nathanael
Hood open up to the reader biblical treasures which are then
faithfully applied to our personal needs and dreams. This book is
not merely a collection of thoughts or essays. It is, instead, a
journey in the direction of timeless truth.”
—Michael B. Brown, former senior minister, Marble Collegiate
Church
“For me personally, the daily devotional readings
provided by Nurture Faith open a unique dimension to my
quiet times of prayer, Bible study, and meditation. I feel like I
have a colleague walking beside me, showing me wonderful
discoveries along a shared journey, his comments and observations
full of warmth, wit, humanity, and an authentic sense of
wonder.”
—Rhys L. Williams, Florida Atlantic University
“To the overall richness of this volume, Nathanael Hood,
Doug’s son, provides his own probing and thoughtful meditations. He
opens new and often unexpected windows on scriptural passages,
allowing us to see what we had not seen before and to reflect on
these great texts in new and life-giving ways. Each one of his
meditations is bold, clear, and provocative—a polished gem.
—Thomas G. Long, Candler School of Theology
“Nathanael Hood is an articulate writer and gifted
storyteller, with the ability to unpack a scripture passage and
expose its demand on the reader’s life. His insightful messages
often have a ‘rest of the story’ feel to them, whether taken from
ancient history or current popular culture.”
—Daniel W. Klein, retired business executive
“These daily meditations strengthen my walk in the faith
and help me to practice ‘Christlikeness’ daily as one of his
followers.”
—Peggy Shuford, church member
