Thank you God for poetry For lines molded, refined like afternoon tea Thank you God for stanza and rhyme For order and depth and beauty sublime So begins this distinct collection of poetry, exploring universal themes of faith, dreams, nature, truth and beauty, love, and self-discovery. Lyrical and imaginative, these poems take the reader through a vibrant field of sunflowers, into the simple silence of a pebble, and within the fanciful dreams of nature. Discover the sound of the color of white, feel the loneliness of Jesus, and see the world through the kaleidoscope eyes of a child with autism. The author sculpts words with texture and rhyme to create poems at once eloquent, intimate, and accessible.
“This collection of delightful poems captures the author’s deep
faith and keen sense of observation of the world about us. Whether
she is describing the flight of a dove, the rise and fall of a
wave, the life and devotion of St. Theresa or St. Mary, Mary
Tarantini invites us to join her in her delight in the Holy One.
This small volume graciously invites the reader to the same sense
of joy and devotion.”
—Peter B. Stube, acting minister provincial, Society of St.
Francis, Province of the Americas
“Grace-filled and tender, Pilgrim is a delightful companion
for the journey. Through lyrical observation of the natural world,
this collection of poems-as-prayer invites readers to explore more
deeply moments of solitude, strength, and humility, with a special
attention to the feminine face of God. Mary Tarantini’s prose is
the prayer so many need.”
—Kate McElwee, executive director, Women’s Ordination
Conference
“In Pilgrim, Mary Tarantini showcases some of her most
breathtaking and deftly crafted poetry. As the manuscript’s name
implies, this is a collection of unadorned, simple poems, as
accessible as they are profound. Still, the poems here hold the
power to surprise the reader. Tarantini deftly crafts lilting,
sonorous verse with a breathtaking prosody and unique word choice.
This collection is a treat for the reader, as it is simultaneously
gorgeous and sincere.”
