A Roman centurion asks Jesus to heal his dying servant. Jesus agrees to help and begins making his way to the centurion’s home, but the centurion tells him not to bother making the trip. He says that it would be enough for Jesus just to say the word for the servant to be healed. The Bible then says that Jesus “marveled” at the centurion’s faith. How could Jesus, whom Christians believe to be God incarnate, who knows all things, be amazed by anything a human does? There must be something special about faith to cause Jesus to be amazed. Christians are called to possess the same kind of faith as the centurion. It may not seem possible, but if we want it, God helps us obtain and maintain the kind of faith that can amaze even God himself. And once we have that amazing faith, it will lead us to share joy, hope, and love with others around us.
“Most of the world puts their faith in something, anything.
Especially now, the world is desperate for it. With Marvelous
Faith, Raymond Shin explores the audacity of the Christian
faith that promises assurances and hope of things unseen. It’s
honest and raw, and it’s a challenge the church needs. Faith in
Christ is marvelous indeed, no matter how extraordinary or dull,
and the world needs it now more than ever.”
—David Chang, lead pastor, Open Door Presbyterian Church
“Shin has written a wonderful work that is so needed in this crazy
world of ours. As Shin points out, if Christ was surprised by the
faith of the centurion, why can’t we also strive to have that
faith? How can we build trust in the Lord like that of the
centurion? As others read this work, I hope they are inspired by
Shin’s work, as I was.”

"From faith as small as a mustard seed, to faith that caused Jesus
to marvel--through the lens of faith, Raymond Shin explores the
profound relationship God offers us, sharing fresh insights that
paint the picture of a Father seeking to lavish grace upon us, a
Father inviting us to place even just our single seed of faith in
him, so that he can magnify it, leading to a joyfully purposeful
life for his glory."
