The marriage of a man to a woman is a wonderful gift of God to the human race--a gift worth celebrating. The Song of Solomon is a song cycle which sings of the joys of married love. It is realistic, recognizing how every married couple has to contend with the effects of sin on their relationship, and it demonstrates how the difficulties may be resolved when things do go wrong. But the Song also points us upwards to consider and to celebrate the model love relationship--that exemplified by the Lord Jesus Christ in his love for his bride, the church.
“I am very thankful that Bayes has written this theologically
rigorous and immensely practical and applicable work. This book is
a biblically grounded . . . challenge for husbands and
wives to cherish one another passionately and joyfully in this
life-long covenant. I greatly encourage professing Christians to
read and study Song of Solomon and would highly recommend Bayes’s
book as an excellent companion in such a study.”
—John-William Noble, Pastor, Grace Baptist Church Aberdeen
“An in-depth study of what is often deemed to be a difficult
portion of Scripture and as such one which is frequently passed
over. Jonathan takes this treasure trove and reveals aspects of
true love which celebrate the love between one man and one woman as
God intended in the context of marriage, just as the love of Christ
for his church. Love is shown to be powerful, passionate, and
priceless, just like this book.”
—John Rawson, retired Industrial Engineering Manager
“Some years ago, I preached through Song of Solomon. I wish I had
had Jonathan’s book then! His approach is carefully balanced, the
result of mature reflection. If you feel out of your depth
approaching this unique treasure in God’s word, let Jonathan help
you. His commentary will guide you to an appreciation of Song of
Solomon’s two sublime themes—the dignity of married life and the
wonder of Christ’s love for his church.”
—Chris Hand, Pastor, Crich Baptist Church, Derbyshire,
England
