This was an assigned reading, but it was probably one of the most enjoyable and convicting required readings I've ever gone through. It opened my understanding of the nature of the human heart while unconverted/unregenerate and of the heart that is converted/regenerate. It is truly a work of God that changes our desires and affections. It examines how the human heart is the source of our sin and the goal of our shepherding and counseling is to reach the hearts of those we interact with rather than simply their intellect or behavior. I believe the practicality of this book is overwhelmingly useful. You can begin applying the principles immediately in your own life, and begin to encourage others in the church as well. This book is on my "must-read" list for anyone interested in Biblical counseling or their own personal sanctification.
