Overview

This quarter’s Study Themes are: “Stepping Up to Serve,”“Gospel Crossroads,” and“Profiles in Character.” Nehemiah determined to step up and serve the Lord. How did he do that? What challenges did he face? What helped him succeed in finishing the task of rebuilding Jerusalem’s wall? These questions and more will be answered in the 5-session Study Theme “Stepping Up to Serve.” In these lessons from the Book of Nehemiah adults will be challenged to undertake a new area and level of Christian service.

“Gospel Crossroads” is a 4-session evangelistic Study Theme based on passages from Luke and Acts that show people intersecting with the gospel. Lessons focus on Jesus’ identity, His resurrection, the credibility of His followers’ testimony, and God’s own testimony about Jesus.

“Profiles in Character,” a 5-session Study Theme, seeks to develop believers’ faith, Christian character, and walk before God in the world by presenting lessons from men and women of old that can be applied practically to the lives of today’s adults.

The Herschel Hobbs Commentary contains expository treatment of each lesson passage in the adult Bible Studies for Life curriculum for this quarter. The approach begins with the “Significance of the Lesson,” moves to “Search the Scriptures,” and concludes with “Spiritual Transformations.” Greek and Hebrew words are explained, the message of the Scripture is clarified, and its truth is applied to life. The Bible exposition is based on the King James Version.
