Overview

This quarter’s Study Themes are:“What It Means to Follow Jesus,”“Is There Life After Failure?” and“The Church: Transforming Lives in a Changing Culture.” “What It Means to Follow Jesus” is a five-session study of the Sermon on the Mount. The lives of some who profess to follow Christ look no different from the lives of unbelievers. Believers need a clear understanding of what it means to follow Jesus.

“Is There Life After Failure?” is a four-session study examining four biblical characters—the Samaritan woman, Abraham, Miriam, and Peter—who failed God at one point in their lives. Believers will be encouraged not to let past failures keep them from moving forward in their relationship with God and in their service to Him.

“The Church: Transforming Lives in a Changing Culture,” a four-session study, addresses elements that define transformational churches. It is about how churches can make disciples whose lives are being transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ so that the culture around them is ultimately transformed.

The Herschel Hobbs Commentary is named in honor and memory of Dr. Herschel H. Hobbs, Southern Baptist statesman and theologian. Dr. Robert J. Dean is a retired curriculum specialist from LifeWay Christian Resources. Dr. Ronald K. Brown is a retired curriculum manager from LifeWay Christian Resources.
