George T. Brooks Sr. earned his BA from the American Baptist College, MDiv from Faith Evangelical Seminary, and DD from Shiloh Theological Seminary. He has served as pastor of Saint James Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee since 1984. He is also president of Exanastasis Ministries, founded in 1997.
Rev. Brooks was elected president of the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Tennessee in 1995 and served until 2003, when he was appointed director of the Congress of Christian Workers of the National Baptist Convention of America (NBCA). He served as deputy secretary, as well as chairman, of the Christian Education Board of the NBCA, and directed pastoral studies field work and practical Christian service at American Baptist College. He’s been a member of 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee since 1997, and taken an active role in numerous civic as well as religious arenas in Tennessee. He led the Historical Commission and the Human Relations Commissions of Metropolitan Nashville Davidson, and serves as a member of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council of the State of Tennessee.
