How did Lazarus cope after being raised from the dead? Did he simply return to his normal routines? Or during Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, what was the donkey thinking? If a stone had the gift of sentience, what witness would it have given to the woman caught in the act of adultery? These are but a few of the questions posed by the author in his collection of short stories, Loose Ends. Each story owes its origin to a passage from the New Testament. Following the Jewish tradition of midrash, author Brian d’Eon prayerfully looks into the motivations of the characters in these stories, trying to fill in gaps in the narrative and tie up “loose ends.” Inspired by countless generations of midrash writers, d’Eon looks for ways to join piety and imagination together, searching for new meaning in stories whose long familiarity may have blunted their original impact.
”The ancient world of the Gospels comes alive in this charming
book, imagined with integrity and faith, humanity and wit. Readers
will meet a strong Christian spirit here, rich with metaphor and
delight."
--Eileen Delehanty Pearkes, author of A River Captured
In “Loose Ends", through his delightful recounting of the Gospel
stories, Brian D’Eon brings the gospel encounters to life. He
allows us to step into the shoes of those who by chance or by
choice do find themselves in the physical presence of Jesus. With
the deft touch of the artist and his keen perception of human
nature, Brian leads us to explore the familiar gospel stories
through the lens of our own human experience.
New depths of meaning emerge as we walk with those who seek the
Lord, who struggle to grasp His message, to ponder the many
questions that confront us as we listen, as we seek to rise to the
challenge of His presence and to overcome fear.
