Overview

The Jesus of the Gospels (NT254) focuses on the historical Jesus and the reliability of the four gospels. The course surveys different “quests” for the historical Jesus by critical scholarship and examines, apologetically, what we can demonstrate about the person of Jesus. It assesses the teaching of Jesus, his miracles, the intention of his ministry, and the historical evidence for his death and resurrection.

Top Highlights

“emphasizes Jesus as the messianic King of the Jews” (source)

“We see, then, in Second Temple Judaism, the Judaism of Jesus’ day, an expanding theology of the resurrection given from a variety of different perspectives. Jesus and Paul certainly believed in the final resurrection, that God would one day raise the dead, that He would reward the righteous and judge the wicked. But from a Jewish perspective, the resurrection was always something that occurred at the end of time. A resurrection in time was almost unheard of.” (source)

“marked the beginning of the end-time salvation and end-time resurrection of the righteous” (source)

“historical narrative motivated by theological concerns” (source)
