Overview

WHEN YOU HAVE DONE WHAT YOUR CHURCH WANTS YOU TO DO, HAVE YOU REALLY ACCOMPLISHED WHAT GOD INTENDS?

Pastors are maturing. Deepening. They want substance for their congregations—and nourishment for their own soul. THE PASTOR’S SOUL series unleashes pastors to do what really matters. To step beyond skills. To give of their unique gifts. To minister authentically and grow in the intangibles of ministry like integrity and character.

A GROUND BREAKING SERIES ON THE INNER LIFE OF PASTORS

In this changing culture, pastors need dedication to do what God wants them to do. They need freedom to fulfill their high calling.

The Power of Loving Your Church honestly assesses the way church really is: Not all churches are easy to love. Not all pastors find love easy. And the two have uncanny ways of finding each other. The Power of Loving Your Church offers help for pastors to grow in the biblical devotion that is indispensable to ministry.

Pastoring, after all, isn't a series of tasks to do with love—rather, it is love.

Top Highlights

“Hesed is about keeping our promises as a form of love, even if, perhaps, the party we are keeping covenant with has violated the letter or the spirit of the relationship. In that sense, to show hesed is to show grace.” (Page 54)

“Hesed means love, but it is the kind of love we show when we keep a promise or remain loyal to a friend.” (Page 54)

“When a church and a pastor do not bond, the church cannot grow—in numbers, in commitment to one another and to God, to mission, to worship, and to a deeper spirituality. The simple reason is that all growth involves change and risk, which causes most individuals and all congregations profound anxiety and threatens to keep us from taking the steps to growth.” (Page 61)

“Steadfast love is the long, stubborn love of God. In hesed God stays faithful to us long after we have forfeited our right to remain in covenant with him.” (Page 55)

“In pastoral care we have two choices: we can bring God to people, or we can play God with people.” (Page 77)

I have only read the first chapter so far, but in narrative form the author(s) lay out a church culture problem, then toward the end of the chapter details church health principles every pastor should know and accept. (www.KevinThomasMinistries.org)
