Overview

For nearly 30 years, the Journal of Biblical Counseling (previously the Journal of Pastoral Practice) of CCEF (the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation) has provided a forum for biblical counseling’s development and application. The journal’s mission is to develop clear thinking and effective practice in biblical counseling through articles that faithfully bring the God of truth, mercy, and power to the issues faced by ministries of counseling and discipleship.

Top Highlights

“Our techniques must show people the relationship between their nature and their behavior, the link between sin and its consequences, the relevance of God’s grace to our real need.” (Page 7)

“Describe your responsibility before God. Describe your close relationships. Why do you withdraw from situations? What do you get out of your depression?” (Page 11)

“What’s the Holy Spirit up to?’ ‘What does He have in mind in giving us this portion of Scripture?’ ‘How does He want people to change or be different as the result of it?’ What’s the telos or purpose of the passage? The Greek word telos means ‘purpose’ or ‘end.’ What’s the goal that God has in mind? When you can answer that, you’ve got it.” (Page 30)

“What gives you fulfillment in life? What makes you feel self-confident? What religious ideas have you been exposed to? What are your beliefs about God?” (Page 12)

“What makes you feel secure? What do you fear? How do you define success or failure? How do you live for pleasure?” (Page 12)
