Notable Lutheran theologian John A. W. Haas presents his exposition of the Gospel of Mark. This volume is slightly more scientific and technical than is the aim of the series; Haas focuses more on archaeological, geographical, philological, and historical commentary than the authors of the rest of The Lutheran Commentary.

“This is the fault of our sin, that will not permit us to recognize His presence” (Page 119)
“robes are white, transfigured by their heavenly glory (9:3), and symbols of victory and glory (Rev. 6:11; 7:9, 13)” (Page 277)
“The flesh always desires to become glorious before it is crucified, to become exalted sooner than it is humbled” (Page 182)
“In trial we hold that God is not God, but a terrible apparition, that will devour us in our troubles” (Page 119)
“as a distant purpose, but it was really imparted by baptism as means to the repentant heart” (Page 6)
