“Pray that the Lord Jesus may come to my heart as His temple, that He may brandish the whip of His love, with which He chastises everyone whom He accepts as His son, and drive out from my inner thoughts, as if they were traders in the temple,21 all the commerce and contagion of wickedness. May He drive forth from me the oxen, the dove-merchants, and the tables of the money-lenders,22 so that I may be cleansed of all foulness and lust and may possess the pure simplicity of faith and charity. For the shadow of Christ remains in the place from which Caesar’s currency is driven out. Where there are no oxen, the crib is clean.23 Where no doves are sold, the faith is kept undefiled.” (Page 188)

“He will gird thee with strength and make thy feet like the feet of a hart so that thou rejoicest as a giant to run the way.67 No weakness of fearful flesh can hinder you, for you advance not by the flesh but by the spirit. For we who are slaves to Christ make our bodies serve and our minds govern,68 so that the flesh receives its orders and accompanies our will which is guided by Christ our Maker. The body derives steadfastness from the mind’s courage, and the servant obeys in accordance with the disposition of the master.” (Page 66)

“He destroyed the wall of the rampart, which is sin, standing between God and ourselves, and made both one.49 This He did not only that the faith of the Jews and the Gentiles might coalesce in Christ, but also that the nature of each of us believers might become harmonious. The discord previously present in us, because the consciousness of the flesh was at war with the feeling of the spirit, was dissolved by the peace of faith. For now the old war, in which the law of sin struggled with the law of God,50 is wiped out in Christ, for the spirit which serves God governs by faith the soul subjected to it, and the flesh in turn becomes the servant of the soul, accompanying it, as it serves God, in every duty of obedience.” (Page 111)
