Overview

Combining academic and popular articles that minister to the church, the Puritan Reformed Journal, presents biblically grounded and historically informed articles that serve the entire person—drawing readers into closer relationship to God, and building them up through teaching and discipleship. Published biannually and edited by distinguished scholar Joel R. Beeke, the journal helps bridge the gap between the academy and the church, furthering theological scholarship and enriching the lives of individual Christians. These first five volumes include contributions from scholars such as Gerald Bilkes, Michael A.G. Haykin, Derek Thomas, and J.V. Fesko.

Top Highlights

“However, the Puritans would remind the contemporary church of the special role that the Lord’s Supper plays in building the faith of the genuine believer. They join Christ in inviting believers to the great feast of communion with their crucified Lord. They remind believers that they neglect this ordinance from Christ at their peril, and should find delight in His command to ‘Do this in remembrance of me.’” (Volume 3, Number 1, Page 222)

“James is saying that faith alone saves, but faith will be tested in order to give evidence that it is true faith. James is arguing that you cannot merely say that you are a Christian without there being the clear evidence of a growing faith that produces good works.” (Volume 3, Number 2, Page 58)

“‘being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood’ (vv. 24–25a).” (Volume 3, Number 2, Page 43)

“More than mere understanding is required, since ‘God’s covenant promises are not ‘spiritually sealed’ by the sacraments unless received by faith and an obedient heart.” (Volume 3, Number 1, Page 210)

“Christian leader serves God and His people by exemplifying godly character” (Volume 3, Number 2, Page 318)
