Logos is pleased to announce the Libronix Personal Book Builder (PBB). Libronix Personal Book Builder is the ideal tool for people who want to archive their own notes, sermons or lesson materials. It is great for pastors or professors who want to keep an archive of all their sermons or course notes.

In short it is the ideal tool for anybody who has a need to create personal electronic copies of non-commercial materials that they own and link them to the entire Libronix Digital Library System for their own private use.

With the Libronix Personal Book Builder you are able to easily create your own Libronix compatible books. They will appear in “My Library.” They will be fully searchable and will have the ability to link to Bibles and other books in your library. The books will function much like commercial Libronix DLS-compatible books and they will share many of the same features. The FAQ below provides some answers to the most commonly asked questions.

Note: All books created with the Personal Book Builder Private Use Edition will work only on the system that they were created on. You will not be able to share these books with any other user.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will the books I create differ in any way from the commercially available Libronix DLS-compatible titles?

While the books you create will substantially look and feel the same as all other titles, you will not be able to assign “specific type classifications” to your books. This may appear to be a subtle point but it needs to be addressed. Some of the automated features in the Libronix Digital Library System are activated by book “types.” You could create your own Bible version or Dictionary or Commentary but you would have no way to “tell” the system that your book falls into a specific “type.” This means your dictionary would not be automatically grouped with other dictionaries or a Bible version with other Bible versions, but they would simply be “books.”

The books you create will contain copyrighted Libronix components and will be licensed to you strictly for non-commercial use. This means you can create books for your own use only. You can not give them away or distribute them in any way, your license does not allow you to “lock” them, or distribute them.

There are other differences. The commercial tools we use at Logos to produce books are designed to accommodate the broad needs of the publisher to ensure that books conform to editorial and stylistic demands. The Libronix PBB, in contrast, is designed for personal use on your own machine only. Conformity to the “look and feel” of the original book has lower priority than “ease of production.” The PBB is designed to force the book to conform to the tool while our commercial tools are designed to conform the digital book to the look and feel of the printed page. This may seem like a small distinction but it represents countless hours of additional work. Nevertheless, it is possible to create an excellent functional digital title with the PBB.

Does the Libronix Personal Book Builder come with a special editing environment or can I use Word or my favorite word processor?

The PBB works on XML/HTML. The data entry component is the same as creating a web page. Almost any software which saves files as HTML will work. If your file can be successfully viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer, it should compile into a Logos PBB title. This means that any features you already enjoy in IE will transfer to your book. This also means you can start preparing your content today. You don't need the PBB tool to create or edit your material.

What does the Libronix Personal Book Builder do?

It collects the bibliographic details of author, title, subject etc. for the “My Library” catalog. It sets all of your links to Bibles and other Libronix titles. It build indexes for your book and it compiles your HTML “book” into a Libronix DLS compatible format which will show up under “My Library.”

License Terms

The Libronix Personal Book Builder is designed to allow users of Logos Bible Software to create electronic books, from their own files, in a format compatible with the Libronix Digital Library System. (Logos can not, however, guarantee that books built with the PBB will remain readable by all future versions of the Libronix DLS.) It is the responsibility of the book builder to stay current with the latest versions of the software.

The Libronix Personal Book Builder (PBB) Private Use Edition is licensed for the creation of electronic books for personal use only. You may not share, sell or distribute any book built with the PBB Private Use Edition. (To build books for free distribution please use the Standard Edition.)

Electronic books built with the PBB Private Use Edition will be readable only on the system you created them on: the Private Use Edition does not build books for distribution.

The PBB is licensed on an annual basis. Books built with the PBB will continue to work after your PBB license expires, except as noted herein, but the PBB will cease to function at the end of the license period. Logos intends to make annual renewal licenses available at a reasonable cost. The renewal license will be $50 annually for the Standard Edition and $25 annually for the Private Use Edition. Logos reserves the right to discontinue annual licensing at any time, without prior notice.

The PBB may be used only to produce electronic books from material for which you hold the copyright or have written permission from the copyright holder to reproduce electronically, or which is in the public domain.

Logos explicitly reserves the right to disable use of electronic books built with the PBB in violation of this license agreement or a third-party’s copyright, and to embed license and copyright protections into PBB built electronic books.

Electronic books created with PBB must clearly be designated as Libronix Digital Library System compatible. They are not to be referred to as “Logos” books. The technology is Libronix — Logos is a Bible software company.

From Text to Personal Book

Begin with any HTML document, whether it was created using Word or another XML/HTML authoring application. The richer your input the more features your personal book will have. For example, section headers (H1, H2, etc.) become entries in the table of contents and allow for easy navigation within the personal book. You can even insert simple tags that enable you to create your own commentary on the Bible that will scroll synchronously with any Bible in our system!
