Windows Keyboards for Ancient Languages

Logos Bible Software version 3 introduced new keyboards for Greek, Hebrew and Syriac that are designed for easy entry of the ancient languages on an English/Roman keyboard. We've also created identical duplicates of the Logos keyboards that can be installed as standard Windows keyboards for Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000 users. This means that you can use the same keyboards in Libronix DLS that you use in Microsoft Word or any other Unicode compliant application. (Unicode is the international standard for multi-lingual encoding.)

The Logos keyboards are the default keyboards for all new installations of Libronix DLS, but users who installed an older version may need to manually change their keyboard settings. Go to Tools | Options | General and select the Interface tab. In the Keyboard Layout drop-down box, select Logos and click OK. Now when you use F2 to toggle between Greek, Hebrew and your default language, you will cycle through them using the Logos keyboards.

To install Windows versions of the Logos keyboards, click on the links to the self-extracting executables below and choose 'run'. Select a directory to download the files to and click Unzip. Once you've extracted the files, read the PDF documentation for installation instructions.

Even if you only plan on using the Keyboards within Libronix DLS, reading the PDF documentation may be useful, as they explain the methods used to assign foreign characters to keys and contain other tips to help you use the keyboards more efficiently.

  • Logos Biblical Greek Keyboard
  • Logos Biblical Hebrew Keyboard
  • Logos Syriac Keyboard
  • Logos Coptic Keyboard (beta - the design of this one may change. Currently it matches the Greek keyboard to a high degree, but some common Coptic characters are assigned to difficult key combinations. The Coptic keyboard has not yet been updated for use with Windows Vista.)
  • Logos Transliteration Keyboard (This can be used to replace Microsoft's English (US) keyboard, as it duplicates that keyboard and adds support for diacritical marks used to transliterate biblical languages. These marks are assigned to keys that will be intuitive for users of the Logos Biblical Greek and Logos Biblical Hebrew keyboards.)

Currently, Coptic can only be accessed using the Windows keyboard - it is not shipping inside LDLS. Simply leave your language in LDLS on your default language (such as English) and use Windows to switch to the Coptic keyboard. For Syriac, the F2 key will not toggle to Syriac, but you can click on the Libronix keyboard selector and choose it manually.
