“‘It’s better to be faithful before God,’ she insisted, ‘than famous before men.’” (source)

“Many people have rules for living. Sangster composed four rules for dying: ‘I will never complain. I will keep the home bright. I will count my blessings. I will try to turn it to gain.’ He did all those things. And thus the work of God was displayed in his life, and God’s strength was made perfect in his weakness.” (source)

“Robertson McQuilkin has suggested that God planned the strength and beauty of youth to be physical, and the strength and beauty of age to be spiritual. We gradually lose the strength and beauty that is temporary so we’ll be sure to concentrate on the strength and beauty which is forever.” (source)

“‘Study hard,’ Baxter once wrote, ‘for the well of spiritual knowledge is deep, and our brains are shallow.’” (source)

“He once said, ‘When I die I shall then have my greatest grief and my greatest joy—my greatest grief that I have done so little for Jesus, and my greatest joy that Jesus has done so much for me.’” (source)

On this Day is an exciting book that recaptures the history of Christianity. It is practical, profound, and powerful! I highly recommend it.

I am enjoying reading this book for my devotional time this year. Great insights each day that often takes me down a path of learning more, seeking deeper understanding, and amazement at the zeal and holiness of saints of old. Take a look at June 12 and see how you stack up with William Carey. Amazing.
