Windows Vista and Older Versions of Libronix

Common Issues Affecting Older Versions of Libronix DLS Under Windows Vista

Note:  We recommend installing 3.0c or above first, rather than updating from a pre-3.0c version. This will ensure compatiblity between Libronix DLS and Windows Vista, and will avoid a (correctable) problem with your Resource files.

This page describes common issues and easy workarounds for those running or installing an older version of Libronix DLS under Windows Vista. It's a good idea to read through this page before installing or updating an older version of Libronix DLS under Windows Vista.

1. Always Close Libronix DLS Before Installing New Products or Updating Libronix

Preventative Solution: Be sure to close Libronix DLS before installing any new Logos product or launching Libronix Update on a Windows Vista machine.

Problem: There's a bug that prevents Libronix Update from knowing when Libronix DLS is open. Normally, you would be prompted to close Libronix DLS before proceeding but this does not happen under Windows Vista. The result is an Error Code 18.

By remembering to close Libronix DLS before installing or updating, you will avoid Error Code 18. If you get this error, simply close Libronix DLS and close Libronix Update, then restart your installation or update without Libronix DLS running. This bug is fixed in Libronix DLS 3.0c.

2. Tools | Libronix Update: You Must Run Libronix DLS as an Administrator

Problem: When Libronix DLS is run normally under Windows Vista, clicking Tools | Libronix Update will fail to launch Libronix Update. Instead, the following error message appears:

Solution: If you run Libronix DLS as an administrator, Libronix Update will launch properly. To run Libronix DLS as an administrator, open Windows Explorer and locate the file C:\Program Files\Libronix DLS\System\LDLS.exe. Right-click on LDLS.exe and choose "Run as an administrator." After Libronix DLS opens, you may click Tools | Libronix Update to proceed with an update as usual.

3. "Windows Installer has stopped working..."

Problem: When installing a Logos product or update on a computer running Windows Vista, you may see a notification that looks like this:

Windows Installer will appear to hang or pause for some time while the message reads: "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem." After a few moments, the message changes to: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Solution: If you see this notice, simply click "Close Program" to proceed with installation. Windows Installer will finish its work properly and close. No further action is needed and no error has occurred.

While a slight annoyance, the Windows Installer notification is harmless and does not indicate a problem. This bug is fixed in Libronix DLS 3.0c.

4. "This program might not have installed correctly..."

Problem: Because of the Windows Installer notification described in item #2 above, the next time you install a Libronix-based product Windows Vista may warn you that Libronix may not have been installed correctly. A "Program Compatibility Assistant" notice will appear that reads: "This program might not have installed correctly."

Solution: You can safely ignore this warning. Just be sure to click "This program installed correctly" and installation will proceed normally. This bug is fixed in Libronix DLS 3.0c.
